  • Azambuja Green Logistics Park is Aquila Capital’s first logistics investment in Portugal
  • The building is expected to achieve BREEAM VERY GOOD certification
  • The project is already under construction and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2022

Green Logistics by Aquila Capital is building a logistic warehouse of 115,000 sqm in Azambuja, district of Lisbon, one of the logistics epicenters of Portugal, thanks to its road and sea connections.

This large new platform will be sustainable, achieving BREEAM VERY GOOD certification, and will have photovoltaic panels installed on the entire roof. Also, during the construction process, the necessary protocols will be followed to minimize all CO2 emissions. The construction works are carried out by GSE, company which also collaborates in other Green Logistics projects of Aquila Capital in Italy.

Azambuja Green Logistics Park, which is promoted by the German company Aquila Capital, under its “Green Logistics” brand, is its first logistics investment in Portugal. It is already under construction and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2022.

Green Logistics has an eight-year track record in the sector having invested more than €729 million in various European projects. Green Logistics currently develops and manages assets in Italy, Portugal, Germany and Spain.

Rolf Zarnekow, Head of Real Estate at Aquila Capital, said: “With this green logistics project, we are pursuing our investment strategy for the Portuguese market. We are pleased to offer an opportunity to benefit from the attractive growth opportunities in the logistics sector in Portugal while having a positive environmental impact. We are committed to continue growing in the logistics sector in Portugal.”

Portugal, especially the Lisbon district due to its excellent infrastructure, is a very attractive market for the development of new and modern XXL logistics platforms, and therefore for investors looking for these assets within the European Union“, underlines Ramon Lázaro, Commercial Director of GSE Spain and Portugal.

Azambuja is a privileged place for users of “Big box” logistics and is already an undisputed logistics hub with the presence of the main players in distribution. Its strategic location, 35 km from Lisbon, with interconnection by road, sea and air through its international airport, is worth mentioning.

Azambuja Green Logistics Park, like all logistics projects of the company, is developed following strict energy efficiency and sustainability standards in the supply chain and construction to reduce CO2 emissions. The project incorporates a water retention basin due to the low capacity of the natural drainage network.

On the other hand, to improve the circulation of the surrounding area, a new public access road and a parking lot for cars and trucks will be built, which will be ceded to the City Council.
