Green Logistics, Aquila Group’s brand dedicated to logistics, will strengthen its presence in Portugal with the construction of a new logistics complex in the Greater Porto area, having acquired, for this purpose, a 40,000 square meter site in Paredes. This will be the company’s third logistics investment in Portugal. Construction will begin in June and should be completed in the first quarter of 2024.
The Gandra North Logistics Park logistics complex has a total leasable area of 16,570 m2, including offices and common areas. At this moment, the building is already fully leased.
This new complex is located in one of the logistics epicentres of the northern region of the country, due to its road and sea connections. It is about 25 km east of Porto, 26 km from Porto’s airport and only 29 km from the Port of Leixões. It also has privileged access to the A41 highway, the Circular Circular Regional Exterior that surrounds the Metropolitan Area of Porto and connects to the A1, to Lisbon, and the A3, to the North and Galicia.
The Gandra North Green Logistics Park will be built according to the most demanding efficiency and sustainability criteria to ensure the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, essential to obtain the BREEAM sustainable construction certification.
The construction work will be carried out by Britoli, a Portuguese construction company specialising in the design and construction of warehouses, offices, commercial and industrial buildings.
“Starting the construction of another Green Logistics by Aquila Group project in Portugal is a very important milestone for us because it validates the investment made in the country. This will be a reference project in the area of sustainable logistics in the North of the country, an area where we were not yet present, and reaffirms our commitment to investing in Portugal. At the same time, it highlights the Aquila Group’s concern with the environmental and economic sustainability of its projects. We couldn’t be more excited about the future of our activity in Portugal,” says Markus Holzer, Co-CEO Aquila Sustainable Infrastructure.
Jens Höper, Head Investment Management Logistics at Aquila Sustainable Infrastructure, comments: “We are proud that our team in Portugal was able to expand the local presence and our tenant base. For our client, our experience and knowhow in sustainability and energy-efficient construction was decisive”.
