- Rainha Green Logistics Park is the first logistics complex to obtain BREEAM Excellent certification in Portugal
- Green Logistics by Aquila Group’s first investment in Portugal achieved a high performance in the categories of energy efficiency, pollution mitigation and water consumption reduction
The Rainha Green Logistics Park in Azambuja of Green Logistics, Aquila Group’s logistics brand, is the first logistics park in Portugal to achieve a BREEAM “Excellent” rating.
Rainha Green Logistics Park achieved a high performance in categories relating to the efficient use and saving of energy, the mitigation of pollution and the reduction of water consumption in its buildings.
This logistics park, located in one of the country’s logistics epicentres, is made up of two buildings covering 112,000 square metres, and entailed an investment of 100 million euros.
The BREEAM methodology, developed by the Building Research Establishment, is the most technically advanced sustainability assessment and certification worldwide. It has been used to analyse the ecological impact of real estate projects since 1990.
For Jens Höper, Director of Logistics Investment Management at Aquila Sustainable Infrastructure: “This certification recognises the dedication and expertise of our teams, who have put sustainability at the top of their priorities from the very beginning. The BREEAM certification also confirms Green Logistics’ winning commitment in Portugal and reinforces our commitment to developing sustainable logistics projects.”
The Rainha Green Logistics Park incorporates sustainable features that prioritise environmental responsibility, such as a water retention basin that promotes the natural drainage of rainwater. It is also equipped with chargers for electric vehicles, a bicycle park and photovoltaic panels on the roof for self-consumption.
This project, which is of public interest in the municipality of Azambuja, also includes a car park with capacity for 343 cars and 51 heavy vehicles and entails the extension of an existing access road and a new pedestrian access. Urbanisation works have been handed over to the municipality.
This logistics park comes as the result of a partnership with GSE – a construction company specialising in the development of industrial and logistics projects – which was responsible for building the complex.
